Project 1

PROFILE OF PATIENTS REPORTING AT OPD OF NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF SIDDHA, CHENNAI.

A study was conducted during the month of June 2008 to understand the profile of patients reporting at OPD, NIS. Patients are mostly of the opinion that Siddha treatment has no side effects. Most of the patients are referred by person to person influence of friends and relatives and it indirectly reveals the effectiveness of the Siddha treatment and its impact on the society. All categories of people irrespective of religion, gender, community etc, are approaching Siddha systems for treatment. In view of an alarming increase in antibiotic drug resistance, emergence of drug resistance in allopathy, cost of allopathic drugs, there has been a paradigm shift towards Siddha Systems of Medicine. People are hardly aware of the origin of Siddha System and its strength in prevention and cure. Patients of Rheumatology, Dermatology, Pulmonology, Gastero – Enterology, Neurology, and ENT are the major disease group for which patients are seeking Siddha treatment. The results are published in JOURNAL OF SIDDHA
